A Note from The Editor, Wendy Garrido:
My mother, my husband and I co-founded North Star Family Matters magazine together.
We published 21 issues of NSFM between January 2007 and September 2008. It was a tough time period in which to launch a print magazine and the business did not prove to be financially viable, however the magazine itself was a TREMENDOUS success.
From the very first issue, people called, emailed and sent us snail mail to tell us how much they loved our magazine, that it was like nothing they had ever seen before.
One month we were running behind schedule and a woman called to say "I am calling because I haven't gotten my February issue yet, and I wanted to let you know, this magazine is changing my life. If I want my son to have good self esteem, I realize that I need to have good self esteem. So am I going to get my February issue?" "YES!!" we responded, "We're just running a little late this month..."
Unfortunately, the time came when the business could not afford to continue publishing the magazine. At a personal level, we were ready to go back to being "just" mother and daughter, husband and wife, mother-in-law and son-in-law, without the added stress of running a business together.
So while there have been no new editions of NSFM published since September 2008, in every issue we produced we strived to keep our content timeless and relevent to families everywhere.
We never ran a story on "Fall Fashion from Teens to Tots," in fact those sorts of "fluff" articles in other parenting magazines are what inspired us to start NSFM in the first place. Instead, we wrote articles that talked about REAL issues and offered REAL solutions.
As a result, you will find that the articles contained within the pages of NSFM are every bit as relevant today as the day they were written (though the same may not be true of the ads!).
That's why we continue to offer (and have people continue to order) our "Best Of Package."

"I wanted to tell you all that this magazine is so amazing!! This weekend, my fiance, his kids and I were able to climb amazing mountains because of the techniques, stories, and articles in the magazine.
I even saw my soon to be step-daughter having a major meltdown (while I kept my cool) and she just sat on the floor crying and grabbed a NSFM magazine and began reading an article she really liked and related to (Santa Fe sisters) and I swear it calmed her right down before my very eyes and helped her to get her focus.
Also, I feel better about my parenting skills after this weekend. Krista had been telling my fiance and I that she was not ready for us to get married (even though she loves me dearly, it's two separate things). I told her that I'm going to continue to be happy about getting married whether or not she is okay with it (which seemed to surprise her tremendously), and that if she changed her mind and ever felt like she was ready for us to get married she could feel free to tell us, but that it was not a requirement of us getting married.
Last night before bed she said "I have something important to tell you - I'm okay with you and Dad getting married. And also, I would like it if Brandon and I could be more involved with the wedding. It feels like you and Dad are making a lot of plans and we're not really involved that much. And also, I was wondering if we could have a family honeymoon before the wedding, since Brandon and I won't be going to Mexico with you and Dad on your honeymoon?"

It may seem like small things to an outsider, but trust me when I tell you that it's HUGE in this family. This painful back and forth drama could have continued for months if she hadn't been taught to listen to her feelings, and trust that she had the answers inside of her--All those things are new to her.
